Kidney stones can cause severe, often debilitating pain as they move through the urinary tract and may increase the risk of infection or urinary blockage. At Urological Associates of Savannah, our board-certified urologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney stones, with a focus on relieving symptoms and restoring overall urinary health.

We create individualized treatment plans based on the size, location, and severity of your condition.

For smaller stones that are not causing significant symptoms, treatment may include increased fluid intake, over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen, and medications that help relax the ureters to support natural passage.

For larger stones or more persistent symptoms, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) may be recommended. This noninvasive procedure uses targeted sound waves to break stones into smaller fragments, allowing them to pass more easily.

In more advanced cases, a minimally invasive procedure called percutaneous nephrolithotomy may be performed to remove or break apart stones directly within the kidney.

If you are experiencing symptoms or believe you may have kidney stones, scheduling an evaluation is an important step toward prompt, effective treatment.
